Each PDF is uploaded to our own server and converted there with open-source software. Normal PDFs go through pdf2docx, which rebuilds paragraphs, tables and images as a Word document. If that result is broken or has lost more than half of the text, LibreOffice is used instead. Scanned PDFs are first read with OCR (OCRmyPDF with the Tesseract engine, in English and Greek) and come back as editable paragraphs. Scans that an app has already made searchable keep the text the app recognised.
We ran 13 test PDFs through the converter and published the results. Text PDFs came through word for word, tables drawn with lines stayed real Word tables, and clean scans had 99.7% to 100% of words right. Two-column pages needed their line breaks removed, tables without lines lost the alignment of their header row, and scanned pages come back without their pictures and table lines.
Up to 20 files per batch and 50 MB per file, with no daily limit. PDFs that need a password to open are refused with a message. OCR reads English and Greek only. A file that mixes normal pages with scanned pages is only sent through OCR if its first pages have almost no text.
Your PDF and the Word file are deleted as soon as the download finishes; files that are never downloaded are deleted within about 20 minutes. Nothing is sent to another service for conversion, and file names and contents are never logged.
Yes. Converting PDFs to Word is completely free, with no sign-up and no hidden limits on basic use.
No. You can convert files immediately without creating an account or signing in.
Uploaded and converted files are automatically deleted from the server shortly after your download completes. Files are never stored, read, or shared beyond what's needed to perform the conversion.
Yes. Scanned or image-only PDFs are automatically detected and processed with built-in OCR (optical character recognition) before conversion, so the text becomes editable.
Yes. You can upload and convert up to 20 PDF files in one go — each is converted and downloaded individually.
Mostly, for ordinary documents: in our tests text PDFs came through word for word and tables drawn with lines stayed real Word tables. Two-column pages, tables without lines and unusual fonts may need touching up afterwards, and scanned pages come back as plain editable text without their layout.
If the PDF needs a password to open, it is refused with a message: open it with its password and save an unprotected copy first. PDFs that open freely but restrict copying or printing are converted normally, so only convert them if you are allowed to reuse the content.
Scanned pages are read in English and Greek. Text PDFs in any language are converted as text, and scans that were already made searchable by a scanner app keep the text the app recognised.
